A very finely painted Dutch Delft plate with a central armorial decoration. This fine large plate features an unusual coat of arms. It probably relates to a coalition in the Dutch province of Zeeland. The coat of arms of the town Dreischor features three sheep, while the three ducks may refer to the arms of Noordgouwe.
It is possible that the plate was ordered to celebrate a treaty around the permit to catch swans, which was an important privilege cities could earn in those days. On the back, we find an extensive monogram which has unfortunately remained unidentified, although the quality of the painting speaks for itself.
The master's initials are P:PVDK (or H).
