A beautiful art deco vase by Boch Kéramis. It features the rare decor nr. 1104, called Alfred. It is sometimes said that it was actually the French godfather of modern comic books Alain Saint-Ogan who designed the penguin for his own comics "Zig, Puce et Alfred".
The vase is decorated with a crackleware glaze and enamels in black and a shade of green-grey.
Very tight geometrical approach to the penguins is a typical art deco feature and makes this vase a superb piece for any setting.
It is a highly sought after type of Boch Keramis vase, also featured on the cover of the book Art deco ceramics - Made in Belgium (Marc Pairon, 2006).
This exact vase is also shown in that book, on page 281.
Period: Art Deco period, ca. 1930
Dimensions: 32 cm tall
Condition report: Excellent condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. One small baking fault which is typical for these crackled glazes, see picture below.
