A late 19th Century French Wrought Iron Safe by Magaud De Charf. This important, Gothic hobnail wrought iron safe was manufactured by Magaud de Charf in Marseilles, France (1850-1890) and features nailhead design on all four sides. It has an all-original, working mechanism. The front door is further decorated with two large hinges on the sides. The inside opens to reveal an amazing lock mechanism and a large storage compartment. To open the safe, you first need to find and locate the nail which will activate and open the key latch on the right. Then, by inserting the smaller of the three keys half-way, it will open both left key latches at once. Next, place the two large keys in each key hole one at a time. In perfect working order. 3 keys! "The walk " by Fernand Gysen. (Antwerpen 1879-Ukkel 1943) A beautiful Art Deco bronze in green patina on a marble base, signed F Gysen, Foundry stamp 'Batardy/cire perdue/Bruxelles'. Belgium Circa 1925s. Sculptor Fernand (Ferdinand) Gysen studied at the Académie de Bruxelles (1902-1903). In 1903, he won the Prix de Rome for sculpture. During his career, he exhibited at prestigious exhibitions and museums in Brussels, Antwerp and Munich, among others. These included the 1910 Universal Exhibition, the Musée Moderne in Brussels in 1914, the Antwerp Triennial in 1931, the Grand Salon de Printemps at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in the same year, the 1911 Royal Encouragement Society of Antwerp Triennial Exhibition, the 1913 Munich Quadrennial Exhibition and the 1930 Antwerp Triennial Exhibition. From 1930 to 1943, he worked in Uccle, rue Vandekindere 400. Dimensions: H62 x W91 x D26 cm. H24.41 x W35.83 x D10.24 inch.
